“Tomáš, here is an idea, is there any way we could transfer your paintings onto the dividers of the toilets in my winery?” Jozef Zvolenský asks on the phone and I sense hesitation in his voice. He could not be sure how I would react – in Slovakia, many people still tend to believe public bathrooms are not a dignified enough place for art.
Jozef Zvolenský and his family have been friends of mine for more than twenty years. They have followed my work practically all through my career and their support has been much appreciated. The beautiful location of their family winery Terra Parna was the setting of two of my exhibitions, and the launch of my book.
Now, this connection has materialised when Jozef decided to integrate my work into the innovative architecture of the winery. He decided to use two of my works from the Violet Garden series that I painted during the first year of the pandemic in the recently renovated part.
I was immediately all for the idea. Together with my wife Elena we found a company that was able to deliver the technological solution of the project, the Czech firm Trachea.
The result is just perfect and the illustration looks surprisingly great, given that the originals for the print were some of my smallest paintings, 25 x 30 cm.
“Tomáš, mám nápad, je možnosť nejakým spôsobom dostať na predelové dosky toaliet tvoje maľby?” pýta sa ma v telefóne Jozef Zvolenský, spočiatku veľmi ostýchavo. Nemohol si byť istý ako zareagujem, keďže na Slovensku veľa ľudí ešte stále vníma toalety ako nedostatočne dôstojný priestor pre umenie.
S Jozefom Zvolenským a jeho rodinou sa priatelím už vyše dvadsať rokov. Sprevádzajú ma prakticky celou mojou kariérou a ich podpora pre mňa veľa znamená. V ich vinárstve Terra Parna, zasadenom v malebnej lokalite v Suchej nad Parnou, sme spolu zorganizovali dve výstavy a krst knihy.
Teraz sa spojenie medzi mojou prácou a ich vinárstvom ešte umocnilo, keď sa Jozef rozhodol včleniť moje maľby do architektúry v zrekonštruovanej časti vinárstva. Vybral si dva obrazy zo série Violet Garden, ktoré som namaľoval v prvom roku pandémie.
Jeho nápad ma potešil a hneď som sa preň nadchol. S manželkou Elenou sme našli spoločnosť, ktorá ponúkala vhodnú technológiu pre túto realizáciu, českú firmu Trachea.
Výsledok je dokonalý. Potlač vyzerá prekvapivo výborne, keďže tlač bola realizovaná z diel ktoré patria k mojim najmenším, 25 x 30 cm.
